Moving advice from Fast Friendly Careful, serving Calgary and Western Canada since 1981. Use the checklist below to prepare questions for your move and agree on the services you need.
Handing over the keys to your new home is an incredible milestone. But handing over every single earthly possession you own to a team of strangers? That requires an immense amount of trust.
Unfortunately, the moving industry has earned a reputation for being stressful. Between budget operators who hold furniture hostage for hidden fees, to careless crews who scratch brand-new hardwood floors, finding a local moving company that actually delivers on its promises can feel like a gamble.
At Fast Friendly Careful, we believe you deserve better. We set out to raise the standard of the local moving industry by prioritizing transparency, premium protection, and unwavering reliability. If you are planning a move in Calgary or the surrounding areas, here is why we are the Professional local choice you can trust.
Confirm the moving scope before you book
The number one complaint in the moving industry is the "bait and switch" quote. A company hooks you with a miraculously low hourly rate, only to slap you with surprise fees for stairs, fuel, or shrink wrap once your belongings are locked in their truck.
A useful quote records the inventory, pickup and delivery access, estimated labour, travel, materials, and any extra services. Ask what is included and what could change the final price; keep the agreed scope in writing.
2. Premium Protection is our Baseline
A truly professional moving company doesn't view protecting your property as an "upsell." It is the bare minimum requirement for doing the job correctly.
The "Fast Friendly Careful" Standard: We treat your home like it is our own.
- Floor Protection: Before a single box is moved, we lay down heavy-duty neoprene floor runners to keep your pristine hardwood and carpets safe from Calgary snow, mud, and boots. (Learn more about our Floor Protection protocols).
- In-Home Wrapping: We practice strict In-Home Blanket Wrapping. Every piece of furniture is heavily padded in quilted blankets and shrink-wrapped inside your home before it is ever moved.
- Mattress Bagging: Every mattress is sealed in a commercial-grade, waterproof plastic bag to ensure absolute hygiene during transit. (Read about our Mattress Protection standard).
3. Fully Equipped, Highly Trained Crews
Many budget companies act as brokers, hiring temporary, untrained day laborers who show up in rented, unbranded trucks with nothing but a rusty dolly.
Ask our team for the current coverage information and the terms that apply to your booking. Disclose fragile or high-value items and confirm any valuation limits or additional protection before agreeing to the move.
4. Serving Calgary and Surrounding Areas
Calgary is a sprawling, dynamic city, and we know it inside and out. From navigating the steep escarpments of Cranston's Riverstone, to managing service elevators in the Beltline, to coordinating with HOAs in Mahogany and Auburn Bay, our dispatch team has the local geography mastered.
- But our trusted services don't stop at the city limits. We proudly provide top-tier residential moving, full packing services, and specialty moving to the surrounding communities, including:
- Airdrie
- Cochrane
- Okotoks
- Chestermere
- Foothills County
